After two months of the season are complete, here's the top pitchers in both leagues.  Some surprises - moreso in the AL than the NL.  It'll be interesting to see how many continue to pitch well throughout the entire season.

National League:

  1. Brandon Webb, Arizona:  10-2, 2.69 ERA, 83.2 IP, 72 Ks.
  2. Edinson Volquez, Cincinnati: 7-2, 1.46 ERA, 68 IP, 83 Ks. (can the rook keep it going?)
  3. Carlos Zambrano, Chicago: 7-1, 2.33 ERA, 81 IP, 55 Ks.
  4. Tim Lincecum, San Francisco: 7-1, 2.33 ERA, 69.2 IP, 76 Ks.
  5. Ryan Dempster, Chicago: 7-2, 2.75 ERA, 75.1 IP, 63 Ks.
  6. Tim Hudson, Atlanta: 7-3, 2.90 ERA, 77.2 IP, 48 Ks.
  7. Ben Sheets, Milwaukee: 6-1, 2.71 ERA, 76.1 IP, 60 Ks.
  8. Aaron Cook, Colorado: 7-3, 3.36 ERA, 83 IP, 38 Ks. (surprised that a Rockies SP is among the tops)
  9. Johan Santana, New York: 6-3, 3.41 ERA, 74 IP, 65 Ks. (usually better in the second half)
  10. Todd Wellemeyer, St. Louis: 6-1, 3.16 ERA, 74 IP, 57 Ks.

Honorable Mention: Mark Hendrickson, Florida: 7-3, 5.27 ERA, 66.2 IP, 37 Ks. (only because of the # of wins)

American League:

  1. Cliff Lee, Cleveland: 8-1, 1.88 ERA, 72 IP, 57 Ks.
  2. Daisuke Matsuzaka, Boston: 8-0, 2.53 ERA, 64 IP, 55 Ks. (let's see how he does coming back from the DL)
  3. Joe Saunders, LA/Anaheim: 8-2, 2.76 ERA, 75 IP, 34 Ks. (last couple of starts haven't been good)
  4. Jesse Litsch, Toronto: 7-1, 3.18 ERA, 65 IP, 37 Ks.
  5. Ervin Santana, LA/Anaheim: 7-2, 3.09 ERA, 75.2 IP, 64 Ks.
  6. Zack Greinke, Kansas City: 5-2, 2.88 ERA, 75 IP, 53 Ks.
  7. Shaun Marcum, Toronto: 5-3, 2.63 ERA, 78.2 IP, 67 Ks.
  8. Scott Kazmir, Tampa Bay: 5-1, 1.22 ERA, 37 IP, 38 Ks. (got a late start)
  9. Vicente Padilla, Texas: 7-2, 3.67 ERA, 73.2 IP, 54 Ks.  (whoda thunk it?)
  10. Chien-Ming Wang, New York: 6-2, 4.14 ERA, 78.1 IP, 45 Ks.

Honorable Mention: Mike Mussina, New York: 8-4, 4.26 ERA, 61.1 IP, 33 Ks (based on # of wins only)

NL & AL Cy Young Candidates After 2 months

In the NL, there are plenty that should be taken over Hendrickson, 7 wins or not. Dan Haren 3.40 ERA, 6-4 record? John Maine has pitched much better than Hendrickson, as has Chad Billingsley, and Cole Hamels.... Plenty of people over Hendrickson. And, if they maintain their pace, Brad Lidge and Billy Wagner deserve some mentioned for what they're doing closing out games, especially Lidge.

And the AL, I don't know if Wang is top 10 right now with that ERA. What about Halladay, Shields, Floyd, Carmona, Eveland, Danks.....a lot of people have good pitching lines that are better than Wang's,
